Making South Sudan’s 2018 Peace Deal Work: Challenges and opportunities on the 24th August 2018.

The University Forum on Governance (UNIFOG) and the Network of South Sudan CSOs in Uganda (NOSSCOU) in partnership with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) have organised a public dialogue to discuss the new peace agreement that was signed on Sunday 5th August 2018 in Khartoum.

This agreement follows new terms that were agreed on in June 2018. In addition to a unilateral ceasefire, this 2018 agreement combines elements from the 2015 peace deal. Various rebel groups in the country were involved in this agreement which raises the prospects for peace and stability in the country.

Where does the event take place?

The Challenges and Opportunities event, on 24th August takes place at Makerere University, Kampala Uganda. A university that prides itself on the work it does towards securing gender equality. Initiatives such as the Female Scholarship Foundation helps women from disadvantaged backgrounds into higher education. Over thirty-six thousand students, attend Makerere, which is a research-led institution.

Who organised the event?

This public dialogue has been organised by the University Forum on Governance (UNIFOG) and the Network of South Sudan CSOs in Uganda (NOSSCOU) in partnership with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS).

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS)is a political foundation. In Germany, its regional offices offer a wide variety of civic education conferences and events. The University Forum on Governance (Unifog) aims to promote good governance and development by facilitating linkages between actions, skills, talents, experiences, and professional expertise of people. The Network of South Sudan CSOs in Uganda is collectively working for a better South Sudan. The network is an umbrella of more than thirty South Sudanese civil society organizations, and working groups based in and operating from Uganda.

Challenges and Opportunities event

The Making South Sudan’s 2018 Peace Agreement work: Challenges and Opportunities event is intended to provide an opportunity for various stakeholders to better understand the content of the peace agreement.
