The purpose of this post is to share a short vital movie, created by Hans Rösling, who is now sadly no longer with us. His energy, his sincerity, his humanity and his genius will always inspire and encourage; as will his dedication to bring us facts through entertaining and engaging visual demonstration. Hans Rösling calls us to build our actions upon truth, (rather than suppositions or rhetoric) and this work is thankfully carried out still by his foundation GapMinder; in the very capable hands of his son and daughter and their team.
The movie is not per se about the issues surrounding the displaced, refugees, migration, integration and reintegration; the work of our lab. But it is about demonstrating with facts that the UNHCR Sustainable Development Goals (to which we are devoted) are realistic and entirely achievable as the target of 2030 and also that they are not an option. The goals are absolutely critical for our world to continue in the positive course we are currently (and happily) on. Goal 1.1 is to eradicate world poverty and our HTiL goal, to include the displaced as active players in the realisation of a fully inclusive global prosperity, relates directly to achieving the same goal and leaving no one behind in the process of making that a reality.
—Has the UN gone mad?
